I am in a minority, in that the series bored me after two episodes. However, I did have an idea how the show might end. Tyler's girlfriend has been kidnapped in 2006, and will be murdered in a couple of days. There needs to be satisfactory resolution of this plotline, but Sam's already been in a coma too long to save her. However, one person knows that this is the same MO of the man he put away twenty-three years previously - retired DCI Gene Hunt. That also would give the series an 'oh, it wasn't all in Sam's head' twist.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten there was some plot in 2006 before he got run over.

Sam's time sense in the coma could be radically different from that outside his head, but if we assume that all the "we've decided to switch off life support at 2pm... Oh, look he reacted, we won't" stuff is supposed to have "really" happened, then yes, you're right that he's been under too long to save her. And even if he woke up and it was the same day, he'd be in no condition to do anything.

If I remember rightly the 2006 girlfriend plot was resolved in the first episode as Sam allowed the guy who would commit the crime be sent to prison rather than a psychiatric unit from which he would be released.
