Today Amazon and the Royal Mail very kindly brought Iain Banks’s new book, Transition. Normally, of course, the arrival of a new Banksie would be the cause for much rejoicing. I find myself unable to start it.
The problem is that I have 200 pages of Peter F Hamilton’s The Reality Dysfunction to go. That is a trivial fraction of that monster’s 1200-page total; but it’s too close to the end to set it aside; and it’s too much to just polish off quickly.
Sigh Such are the difficulties of life in the affluent west in the 21st century.
